Secure communication with your vehicle

Fleet keys allow your Tesla to read encrypted commands it receives from applications you trust. This ensures secure end-to-end communication.

  • Tesla uses fleet keys to ensure that commands sent to your vehicle are secure and haven’t been tampered with during transmission.

A fleet key is a digital key that enables your Tesla to read encrypted messages from applications that you have authorized to communicate with your vehicle (by adding the application’s fleet key). Anyone else who may intercept that message will be unable to tamper with that message.

This type of end-to-end encryption helps protect the privacy and security of messages and data exchanged with your vehicle.

  • Download the latest version of the Standard Fleet app and authorize bluetooth access. Fleet keys can only be added when you are within bluetooth range of the vehicle. Once you are nearby, the key will automatically be installed. You will receive a push notification from Tesla as confirmation.

  • Just approach the car again, and it will be re-added.

  • The Standard Fleet key will be listed in the same part of your console as any RFID card keys or phone keys you have paired with the vehicle. It will be listed as “app.standardfleet.com”.
