Standard Fleet uses connected vehicle API’s to access controls and collect useful data from the car, such as driving and charging statistics. An API is a tool for software applications to communicate with each other. APIs are secure with measures such as authentication, authorization, encryption, and rate limiting.
This is how Standard Fleet tracks trip history, aggregates useful statistics, monitors the status of the car, and provides controls. However, we do not access information that isn’t fundamental to the functionality of the service, meaning Standard Fleet does not have access to private information like your vehicle account passwords.
-
Security was top of mind in the architecting of Standard Fleet, and we follow industry best-practices. Standard Fleet never sees or stores account passwords. Instead, Standard Fleet stores an access token that is used to access the vehicle to acquire data. This is the same token used to take actions on the car like controlling climate or honking the horn, at the user's request. All sensitive communication with Standard Fleet’s servers are done over secure HTTPS connections.
Standard Fleet’s access can be revoked anytime by contacting us or changing the Tesla account password, which automatically revokes any existing third-party access, including Standard Fleet.
Feel free to email any further questions and concerns to support@standardfleet.com.

Standard Fleet is built by a team of designers and engineers formerly at companies like Apple, Tesla, Yelp, and Stripe.
Standard Fleet’s CEO David Hodge is a long-time transportation enthusiast and was a founder and CEO at Embark, a transportation app with millions of users that was acquired by Apple. At Apple, David was an engineering leader during the evolution of Apple Maps, where he helped launch projects like Transit, Nearby, and Maps on Apple Watch.
David founded Standard Fleet after his independent app Nikola for Tesla grew and revealed the need for fleet management software, built for a new age of electric vehicles.
