A New Era in Law Enforcement: South Pasadena Police Department’s All-Electric Fleet

Today, the South Pasadena Police Department (SPPD) made history by becoming the first in the nation to transition its entire fleet to electric vehicles (EVs). This landmark move is more than just an upgrade – it’s a paradigm shift towards EVs being the most practical and economical choice in public service. Congratulations!

This transition is expected to save approximately $4,000 per vehicle annually on energy costs alone, in addition to significant savings on maintenance and improved uptime. The move to electric vehicles not only enhances operational efficiency but also aligns with the city’s vision of environmental stewardship, supported by the installation of a solar-powered system with battery storage for added energy resilience.

At Standard Fleet, we are incredibly proud to support the SPPD in this ambitious project. Our technology provides real-time control over the charging, maintenance, and dispatching of the customized Tesla vehicles now patrolling the streets.

This unveiling by the City of South Pasadena and SPPD follows our recent news from July 16, when we announced our partnership with UP.FIT. Together, we are developing next-generation police vehicles that combine cutting-edge technology with practical applications. This collaboration between our software solution and UP.FIT’s hardware services underscores our commitment to driving the future of electric vehicle adoption by government agencies. SPPD’s Sergeant Tony Abdalla has said that the collaboration has made adopting and managing an EV fleet of police vehicles not only possible, but more desirable than gas vehicle alternatives.

The City of South Pasadena’s initiative sets a new standard for municipalities nationwide. As we continue to develop and deploy cutting-edge solutions, we look forward to seeing more cities follow suit.
